Rural Australians for Refugees Queanbeyan meets at 2pm on the first Saturday of each month at the Uniting Church, Rutledge Street, Queanbeyan.
The group started in October 2014. In 2015-16 Queanbeyan was declared a suitable regional area to settle refugees. Since then, RARQ has been involved in several community events with the aim of raising awareness of the plight of refugees and those seeking asylum in our country. These activities have included information stalls at festivals, placing an entry in the Queanbeyan Clearwater Sculpture Prize, attending various rallies in Canberra, fund-raising through dinner & movie evenings, plus ongoing information and planning sessions with other groups in our area. Our annual fundraising dinner has allowed us to donate money to other groups around the country who are directly assisting those seeking asylum and refugees.
